빨강은 용기를, 파랑은 고매한 정치적 이념을, 하양은 순결과 평화를 상징한다. 태양의 8개의 햇살은 독립혁명에 참가한 8개 도시의 자유를, 3개의 별은 루손·비사야·민다나오의 3섬을 나타낸다.
