빨강은 혁명을 상징하고, 그 밖의 3색은 요르단의 옛 왕조를 나타낸다. 검정은 아바스왕조, 흰빛은 우마이야왕도, 초록은 파티마왕조이고, 일곱 모서리의 별은 《코란》 제 1장 일곱행을 나타낸다.
